Eastern District Dental Society (EDDS) is the non-profit component dental society serving Eastern Georgia, affiliated with the Georgia Dental Association and American Dental Association.
Eastern District Dental Society Inc. is a 501(c)(6) non-profit component dental society representing licensed dentists, residents, and practice teams across Eastern Georgia. EDDS is formally affiliated with the Georgia Dental Association (GDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA) as part of organized dentistry's tripartite structure — local, state, and national — and is headquartered at the Dental College of Georgia (DCG) at Augusta University. EDDS does not see patients and operates no clinic; it exists solely to serve the professional, educational, and ethical needs of its member dentists.
EDDS traces its roots to the earliest organized dental societies of Eastern Georgia, formed to give local dentists a collective professional voice alongside the state and national associations. Over the decades the Society has grown alongside the Dental College of Georgia, building a lasting partnership with the academic institution that trains the region's next generation of dentists. Today EDDS continues that tradition as the recognized component society for its district within the GDA/ADA tripartite system.
Mission: To advance the art and science of dentistry in Eastern Georgia by supporting our members through continuing education, ethical peer review, professional advocacy, and mentorship of the next generation of dentists at the Dental College of Georgia.
Vision: A unified, well-trained, and ethically grounded dental profession in Eastern Georgia, supported by strong ties between practicing dentists and the academic community at DCG.
Values: Professional integrity, lifelong learning, collegiality, ethical accountability, and service to the patients and communities our members serve.
1. Continuing education. EDDS coordinates accredited CE seminars, workshops, and programming for licensed dentists, residents, and practice teams throughout Eastern Georgia, keeping members current on clinical technique, materials, and regulation.
2. Professional advocacy & tripartite representation. The Society represents member interests locally, with GDA at the state level, and with ADA nationally — carrying member concerns into policy discussions that affect the practice of dentistry.
3. Peer review & ethics oversight. EDDS maintains a structured peer-review process for patient-dentist disputes and upholds professional ethics standards among its membership, offering a fair, profession-led alternative to litigation.
4. DCG student & resident mentorship. Through its relationship with the Dental College of Georgia, EDDS supports dental students and residents with board exam preparation resources and practice-transition networking as they move from training into practice.
EDDS is governed by an elected board of officers, led by the Society's President and Executive Lead, and operates under bylaws consistent with its 501(c)(6) non-profit status and its tripartite obligations to GDA and ADA. The Society's finances and records are maintained under standard non-profit fiduciary practices, and its outreach and educational partnerships are coordinated through its headquarters at the Dental College of Georgia.
